Prosocial Responses

Being prosocial means you focus on the needs and wants of others. We naturally take care of ourselves to our preferred degree we ensure safety, meeting basic needs and higher needs.

Donating and volunteering meet different needs

Prosocial behaviors respond to needs of others, shifting away from internalized ideas of what someone needs to discovering what they are looking for in support. For example, showing you care when someone is hungry will not reduce their hunger.

Some people will bring food to show they care, and that is an internally informed response which may or may not meet the other person’s need. If asked they may tell you that when you listen, that is how they know you care.
